How well do you know your blues and jazz? Who wrote this song and who recorded it?

Oh every time it rains

It rains pennies from heaven

Don't you know each cloud contains

Pennies from heaven

You'll find your fortune

Fallin' all over town

Be sure that your umbrella is upside down

Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers

It you want the things you love

You must have showers

So when you hear it thunder

Don't run under a tree

There'll be pennies from heaven

For you and me

The world was bright when you loved me

Sweet was the touch of your lips

The world went dark when you left me

And then there came a total eclipse

Nobody knows how cruel fate can be

How close together love and can be

Goodbye, just clean the slate for me

That's life I guess

How well do you know your blues and jazz? Who wrote this song and who recorded it?
"Pennies From Heaven" was wrote by Arthur Johnson and Jonny Burke. It was originally sang by Bing Crosby, then Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, and many others!
Reply:Well, the movie of the same name... "Pennies from Heaven".... was made by MGM in 1955 (MGM's first musical, got nominated for a 3 Oscars I think)). The song, "Pennies from Heaven", written by Johnny Burke and Arthur Johnson is heard several times in the film, including a rather obvious lip-synch job sung in reality by Arthur Tracy.

The answer to the question though: one of my favorite blues songs ever, "Pennies from Heaven" by Burke %26amp; Johnson, was recorded by one of the ultimate blues singers of all time, the immortal Billie Holiday. Other jazz/blues version were done by Louis Armstrong and other big band singers of the era.
