Is it possible to crop my umbrella tree by the main stem without killing it?

My umbrella plant has grown too tall and spindley. Although there is plenty of foliage, the stem is quite thin and cannot support the top part on it's own( I have to lean it against the wall or the whole thing wants to fall over). If I cropped the main stem part of the way down would it kill it or would it help it to grow thicker and bushier?

Yes prune it now, re pot it into a pot one size up and give it a feed with a general fertiliser, it will put out new shoots in no time.
Reply:Yes, you can crop it. Give it some fertilizer and water well.

Good Luck!!
Reply:yea, they're hardy blighters
